罷工原因
去年，由於在薪資問題上爆發了前所未有的罷工，導致147所大學停課。一些學校被迫對學生失去的學習時間進行補償。而此次英國大學教職員工投票罷工的原因依舊和之前一樣，是養老金、薪資和工作條件的問題 。
據悉，在今年的高校退休金計畫（USS）會議上，英國大學將教職員工薪資的養老金扣除比例上調，從原來的8.8%提升到9.6%。並且，該比例還有可能於2021年時增加至11%。這對於本來收入就不富足的大學教職員工們來說可謂是一大打擊，也是造成再次罷工抗議的重要因素。
並且根據英國大學工會（UCU）的調查報告顯示：英國大學沒有採取任何措施來解決教職員工薪酬下降的問題。在過去十年中，員工們的實際收入下降了21％。而這一罷工決定也得到了英國大學工會（UCU）的支持，UCU與英國大學協會 (UUK)陷入了一場爭鬥。
UCU表示，儘管大學教職員工的養老金將增加約4萬英鎊，但在養老金計畫改革後，他們的退休金將減少近20萬英鎊 。
對學生有什麼影響？
老師罷工，遭殃的可是無辜的學生們。 經歷過去年的罷工的同學，應該都深有體會吧。課沒上成，試還是照考，論文照寫，全靠自學，有些學科還不一定能靠自己搞明白。特別是海外留學生，交了那麼多的學費，卻上少了這麼多課，錢涼涼了不說，還沒學到該學的，真是虧大了。 而且最重要的，自上次罷工英國老師就明確表示： 課我不會給你們上，但是該考的試一門也不會少。
學生有可能得到補償嗎？
這個還真的不好說。 有的學校可能會退學費或者補課，有的就不會。以去年英國大學罷工的情況來看，罷工結束後僅有愛丁堡大學和蘇塞克斯大學對學生進行了經濟補償。 除此之外幾乎沒有大學同意學生對賠償金的訴求。 甚至是沒有任何補償。比如劍橋大學表示，我們可以給予相應的補償，但絕對不給錢。
巴斯大學不僅表示我們絕對不賠錢，還說： 合約裡都寫好了，罷工造成的任何損失學校一概不負責任。
